Santo Fortunato
is Professor of Complex Systems at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science of Aalto University, Finland. Previously he was director of the Sociophysics Laboratory at the Institute for Scientific Interchange in Turin, Italy. Prof. Fortunato got his PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Bielefeld In Germany. He then moved to the field of complex systems. His current focus areas are network science, especially community detection in graphs, computational social science and science of science. His research has been published in leading journals, including Nature, PNAS, Physical Review Letters, Reviews of Modern Physics, Physics Reports and has collected over 10,000 citations (Google Scholar). His review article Community detection in graphs (Physics Reports 486, 75-174, 2010) is the most cited paper on networks of the last years. He is the recipient of the Young Scientist Award for Socio- and Econophysics 2011, a prize given by the German Physical Society.

Seeram Ramakrishna
is a scholar, media columnist and speaker on higher education, research and innovation at the meetings facilitated by World Bank, UNESCO, OECD, Governments, and Universities around the world. Thomson Reuters recognized him among the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds. He is a Highly Cited Researcher. His university leadership includes National University of Singapore (NUS) Vice-President for Research Strategy; and Dean of Faculty of Engineering. His global contributions include Founder of Global Engineering Deans Council); Vice-President of International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES); Founder of University Excellence Care Project; Board Member of Asia Society for Innovation and Policy (ASIP); and Council Member of Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES). Roberta Sinatra
is a JSMF Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northeastern University (Boston, MA) in the Center of Complex Network Research, the research group of Prof. László Barabási, where she works on the characterization of the large-scale structure of complex networks. Before moving to Boston, she was a PhD student in Physics at the University of Catania, where she was part of the Complex Systems Lab and of the ATP group. Her research focused on the application of methods of statistical physics and information theory for the modelling and analysis of complex networks. Beyond a PhD in Physics (February 2012), she also received a Laurea Magistrale in Theoretical Physics (equivalent to a MSc) from the University of Catania, and a Diploma degree from Scuola Superiore di Catania. Also, she have been a student at the Complex Systems Summer School at the Santa Fe Institute, and a visiting research scholar at the BIFI, Queen Mary University, Imperial College, and at the Medical University of Vienna.

Tania Vichnevskaia
is responsible for the group “Indicator and Evaluation” in the Bibliometric Unit of the Department of Scientific Evaluation at the French National Institute for health (INSERM). Expert in Quantitative and Structural bibliometric analysis of the sciences. For 15 years I have conducted numerous bibliometric studies for French scientific institutions, quantitative or structural, in national and international contexts. I am specialized in the measurement of science and the study of the structure and evolution of scientific disciplines through the co-authorship, co/intercitation or semantic aspects. I am particularly interested in the Data and Text Mining, development and application of analytical and visualization tools, particularly in network analysis.

Karin Stana Kleinschek
is a full professor at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of University of Maribor active in the field of polymers, surface characterisation and modification/functionalising of natural polymers with emphasis on polysaccharides and their derivate, biomedical materials. Since 2011, she is Vice-rector for research at the University and as such also president of the Habilitation Committee of the university. She is member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and of the scientific boards of »POLYCHAR« (International Conferences of Polymer Characterisation); »ELECTROKINETIC SOCIETY«; EPNOE-ACS (European Network of Excellence for Polysaccharides in Cooperation with American chemical society); member of the Management Board of the Slovenian National Research Agency ARRS, as well as the Slovenian representative in the programme board of ERC, Marie Sklodowska Curie scheme and projects in the field of future emerging technologies (FET) for Horizon 2020; she was involved in numbers of EU projects, at the moment she coordinates the 7 FP project within the Marie Curie programme (FP7-PEOPLE-2012-IEF) titled »Micro- and Nanostructured Polysaccharide Interfaces (POLY-INTER-FACES)«. Her bibliography encompasses more than 800 units with the main emphasis on 148 scientific articles in indexed journals ; more than 20 guest lectures; 125 published lectures in proceedings of international scientific conferences; 220 published abstracts in proceedings; 8 chapters on scientific monographs; 3 chapters in professional monographs; 22 innovations; 59 international and national project reports; 6/8 patents/ patent applications; 18 mentorships/co-mentorships of doctoral theses; actual mentor of three PhD students; more than 30 mentorships of graduate and post-graduate students; mentor of six young researchers.

Andrée Sursock
is Senior Adviser at EUA. She is the author of the 2010 Trends report, which analyses a decade of policy change in European higher education, and is involved in several EUA projects related to quality assurance and lifelong learning. Most recently she conducted and wrote a study on internal quality processes in universities and a final report based on the evaluations of five African universities carried out jointly by EUA and the Association of African Universities (AAU). She serves on the international advisory committee of Université Pierre et Marie Curie - Paris 6, and on the appeals committee of the Portuguese accreditation agency. She sits on the boards of several QA agencies: in the French Community of Belgium, Switzerland and Dubai. Between 2001 and 2009, she was Deputy Secretary General at EUA, with responsibilities for developing EUA's quality assurance policy positions and activities and representing EUA in European and international discussions. Before joining EUA, she was Director of Development at the Centre for Higher Education Research and Information (Open University, UK), and worked on several European projects related to quality assurance. She taught at a variety of institutions in the USA and held an administrative post at Stanford University. She earned a first degree in philosophy from the University of Paris I, Panthéon Sorbonne, and a PhD in social-cultural anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Nian Cai Liu
took his undergraduate study in chemistry at Lanzhou University of China. He obtained his doctoral degree in polymer science and engineering from Queen's University at Kingston, Canada. He moved to the field of educational research in 1999, before which he was a professor in polymer science and engineering. Prof. LIU is currently the Director of the Center for World-Class Universities and the Dean of Graduate School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His current research interests include world-class universities and research universities, university evaluation and ranking, research evaluation and science policy, globalization and internationalization. Prof. LIU has published extensively in both Chinese and English. His latest books include "How World-Class Universities Affect Global Higher Education: Influences and Responses" and "Paths to a World-Class University: Lessons from Practices and Experiences". The Academic Ranking of World Universities, an online publication of his group, has attracted attentions from all over the world. Prof. LIU has been enthusiastic in professional services. He is one of the vice-chairmen of "IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence". He is on the editorial/advisory boards of several international journals including Scientometrics, Research Evaluation. He was a guest editor for the September 2011 issue of Chinese Education & Society.

Øivind Andersen
is a Norwegian philologist. He was born in Oslo and took the dr.philos. degree in 1976 with the thesis Paradeigmata. Beiträge zum Verständnis der Ilias. He was appointed as a professor at the University of Trondheim in 1980 and from 1989 to 1993 he was the first director of the Norwegian Institute at Athens. In 1997 he became professor at the University of Oslo. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. Present position: Professor of Classical philology at the University of Oslo and Secretary General of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (2010-15).

is the Director of the Slovenian Science Foundation (SSF). The SSF is a national institution for the promotion of science. It was established in 1994.
